There is much more to marketing than just advertising -- there is research, networking, planning, and knowing what results and outcomes you want to achieve from the marketing of your small business.

Start with a Small Business Marketing Template

A marketing template is vital in working out the type of marketing you will need as well as the following:

Who you are marketing to

Where you will be marketing

How will you be spending your marketing $$

When will you need to spend the $$

What type of marketing you will need to do to get the customers you want for your business.

I know, I can hear you saying ... just a sec, I can't pick and choose who my customers will be when I don't have any and how can I afford to be picky??

Well, a lot of money is wasted in small business marketing and a standard ad is often targeted at thousands of people that have no intention of using your business!

In saying that, there are certain times when it is vital to market to the masses of people ... by completing a marketing template you will start to determine what, who, where, when and how of your small business marketing.

Marketing on the Internet

There are an abundance of small businesses that have been created by the internet and online marketing is one of the best ways to market your business.

Creating a website is a fantastic tool for marketing a business on the internet, but you need to do it right. The website can't be a static boring website that is set up and left to forget!

It needs to have constant attention, it's own marketing and you need to have people know that it is there.

If you are stuck for marketing ideas there are heaps of forums and information on the internet, there are local small business offices that can help and give you advice but I can't stress enough ... UNTIL YOU DO A MARKETING PLAN don't advertise! Don't even open your business ... wait until you have planned and you are sure of what you are doing.

There are so many time wasters in business that without knowing what you are going to do in the first place they will just take up all your time.
